Kids Christian Academy is a vibrant pre-school and tutoring center serving children from pre-school age through Grade 7. Founded by Kim Simpson, our mission is to blend high-quality education with a strong Christian foundation, nurturing young minds in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, and beyond.
Kim Simpson’s passion for children’s education began decades ago, rooted in her early work with Children’s Homes in Pietermaritzburg, where she fostered a deep connection with young lives. Relocating to Amanzimtoti, Kim discovered her love for teaching while homeschooling her daughter, sparking a lifelong commitment to education. She trained as a Tutor Supervisor through the ACE (Accelerated Christian Education) program and Impaq, laying a solid pedagogical foundation.
In 2012, Kim embraced a teaching role in the rural village of Nquthu, instructing 3- and 4-year-olds, Grade R, Grade 1, and Grade 3 students. This experience drove her to complete her Early Childhood Development certification. Between 2012 and 2014, she advanced her skills with studies in Advanced Crèche Management and Advanced Management. From 2017-2018, Kim explored Child Psychology, enhancing her understanding of young learners’ needs. In 2019, she completed a Level 5 TEFL course through I-to-I Academy, equipping her to teach English effectively to both children and adults in today’s globalized world. Her other qualifications were earned through Skills Academy, the sister school to SA College.
Returning to Pietermaritzburg’s Napierville, Kim founded Kids Christian Academy to combine academic excellence with Christian values, creating a supportive environment for every child.
As an independent organization, Kids Christian Academy thrives through community-driven revenue streams like virtual Fun Days, online bake sales, and innovative fundraising events, adapting to today’s digital landscape. We are committed to continuously upgrading our learning center with modern tools, including interactive whiteboards, online learning platforms, and hybrid teaching options to meet post-pandemic needs. Our goal is to ensure every child’s experience is enriching, safe, and future-ready.
Since 2018, we’ve successfully introduced a Grade 1 learning center, with Grade 2 established by 2019. Looking ahead, we plan to expand to Grade 3 by mid-2025, incorporating STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) activities with a Christian perspective. We’re also piloting a virtual tutoring program to reach families beyond Pietermaritzburg, ensuring accessibility in an increasingly remote world.
